Television Controls



 The television is connected to Direct TV and most of the operation of the TV is done via the Direct TV remote pictured to the left.  There is a remote for the living room located on the end table between the chairs and an other one located on the coffee table.  The remote for the kitchen is located below the TV in the kitchen.  Note:  The living room remotes and the kitchen remote are not interchangeable.

Turn on TV:  To turn on the television point the remote at the lower right of the TV then press the remote "on" button and hold for a few seconds.  You should hear a click when the TV comes on.  It will then take about 60 seconds for the television to warm up and come on.

Turn off TV:  To turn off the television point the remote at the lower right of the TV then press the remote "off" button and hold.

TV Volume control:  The volume control is on the left side of remote.  Press + to increase volume and - to decrease volume.  The mute button is just below the volume control.  Note:  In the living rooom if there is no sound it is likely that the Bose sound system is turned off.  The black Bose remote is located on the end table along with the TV remote.  The Bose sound system can be turned on and off by pressing to white on/off button.

Changing channels:  You may change channels by pressing up or down on the Chan/Page button to move the channel one channel at a time.  You may also change channels by keying in the channel number directly on the number pad.  The Prev button below the Chan button will change the channel to the last previous channel viewed.  A few of the channels you might like are

  6. BBC America -- channel 264
  7. History Channel -- channel 269
  8. National Geographic -- channel 276

  10. Al Jazeera America -- channel 347

Using the Guide:  Direct TV has an online guide for all channels for the next 12 days.  The guide is controled by the middle buttons on the remote.  There is a yellow select button circled with up, down, left, & right arrows.  Above that are four buttons, guide, active, list, and exit.  Below the select button are three buttons back, menu, and info.  Below those are four colored buttons.

To activate the guide press the "guide" button (supprise!).  The guide will start with the program currently playing.  You can move up and down through the channels by pressing the volume button up or down (one channel at a time) or the Chan/Page button up or down (five channels at a time.)  When you get to a program you would like to watch press the Select button.  If you press the exit button you will get out of the guide.

Press the left or right buttons the grid will move in time (one-half hour at a time.)  Press Green button you move forward in time 12 hours.  Press the Red button you move back 12 hours.
