Lab Actions Set


Download actions here.  You may save this zip file to any folder you wish.  This zip file contains the file LAB Actions.atn.  To bring the actions into Photoshop use the actions menu, select "Load Actions" and chose LAB Actions.atn.  Alternatively you may simply double click on LAB Actions.atn.  You may also transfer LAB Actions.zip to another computer that has Photoshop installed on it and install the actions on that computer.

Contents of LAB Actions.atn

The LAB Actions set contains four actions.  Three are automations of the three LAB techniques described here.   The fourth is an action that flattens and converts to 8 bit RGB any image file.

  1. The No Brainier Curve

This action converts the image to LAB, creates a curves adjustment layer, and makes the No Brainier Curve adjustments to the curve.  The image is left in LAB with the curves adjustment layer active so that you could tweak it yourself.

  1. The Man From Mars Technique

The MFM action performs all of the MFM steps automaticly after converting to LAB.  The opacity of the resulting  curves adjustment layer was automaticly reduced to 24%.  This can be modified after the action is executed.

  1. Painting With Color

The Painting With Color automaticly creates a green-magenta channel (a channel), a blue-green channel (b channel), and an equalized lightness channel all adjusted as per the Paint With Color technique.  The equalized lightness channel is hidden and the other two channels are given black layer masks.  In addition a 50% gray layer with blending mode "overlay"is added for dodging and burning.  The user may now paint white on the a and b layer masks as per the PWC technique then reveal  the lightness layer and make necessary corrections.  The dodge/burn layer can be painted black or white to dodge or burn differenct areas.

  1. Flatten to RGB

Flattens an image and leaves it in 8 bit RGB.
